Premier League: Christmas stocking fillers
Everyone loves a festive bargain and in Telegraph Fantasy Football it’s no different. Rather than suggest the top players you all know about, we’ve had a hunt lower down the price list and picked out a handful of well-priced alternatives that could bring you those all-important points this Christmas.
ABDOULAYE DOUCOURE is just £2.0m in midfield and he’s been an ever-present for Watford this season. What’s more, he’s scored five times already and nearly made it six against Spurs in Week 17 but was unfortunate to see a long range effort come back off the post. The Hornets have developed a reputation for being a well-organised, tough-tackling side, and Doucoure fits the bill perfectly for them. Burnley, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield and Brighton are up next, so there are plenty of points up for grabs in the coming weeks.
Up top, GLENN MURRAY is bang in form for Brighton. In fact, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku are the only strikers that have produced more points in the last six game weeks than Murray, making him a better option than Lacazette, Kane, Morata, Aguero and Firmino, despite costing just £3.6m. He’s scored four times during that spell and features in less than 1% of all teams. Huddersfield, Burnley and Watford are to come, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Murray’s name on the scoresheet over the busy festive schedule.
Burnley have been one of the surprise packages of the season and Sean Dyche continues to impress on Turf Moor. They haven’t suffered at all from the injury to England international Tom Heaton as £2.3m rated NICK POPE continues to churn out the clean sheets. He has six from 12 appearances and now faces back-to-back home matches against Watford and Stoke, respectively. Following that is a trip to Brighton so Pope could add a couple more to his tally, at least.
It would be rude not to acknowledge the Super Sunday fixtures, and so our pick of the bunch is Liverpool’s JOE GOMEZ. He’s priced at just £2.7m and without doubt the Reds look stronger at the back when he features. Jurgen Klopp’s side have all the momentum after their 7-0 demolition of Spartak Moscow on Wednesday night and are favourites to be crowned the kings of Merseyside this weekend.
